Superintendent's Community Update

Building on Excellence:

Continuing the Momentum

Dear Little Compton Families and Community Members,

It is an honor and privilege to serve as Superintendent of the Little Compton School Department. As we begin the 2026–2027 school year, I am excited about the opportunities ahead and deeply appreciative of the extraordinary commitment this community has consistently demonstrated to its children and its schools.

Over the few months, I have had the opportunity to experience firsthand what makes Little Compton such a special place to learn, teach, and grow.

I have seen students engaged in meaningful learning—asking questions, collaborating, creating, problem-solving, and taking increasing ownership of their education.

I have seen talented and dedicated teachers and staff who know their students well, care deeply about their success, and build strong relationships with children and families.

I have seen teachers increasingly embrace the International Baccalaureate (IB) philosophy in their classrooms, creating learning experiences that encourage inquiry, critical thinking, reflection, communication, and connections to the world beyond our school.

And I have seen something equally important: a community that genuinely values education and understands that strong schools are built through strong partnerships among students, educators, families, and the community.

These are tremendous strengths, and they provide the foundation for our work moving forward.

Continuing the Momentum

My vision for Little Compton is not about changing direction. It is about building on excellence and continuing the momentum that already exists.

Our challenge now is to take what we are doing well and bring it to the next level.

That means continuing to strengthen excellent teaching and learning so that every student is known, supported, challenged, and engaged.

It means deepening our International Baccalaureate(IB) implementation so that IB becomes more than a designation. We want the IB philosophy to be reflected in how our students learn every day—through inquiry, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, reflection, and meaningful connections across disciplines and to the larger world.

It means investing in our educators through meaningful professional development and collaboration. Great schools are learning organizations, and our teachers and staff must have opportunities to learn from one another, examine student learning, share effective practices, and continually refine their craft.

And it means becoming more intentional about telling the Little Compton story.

Why Little Compton?

There is something truly unique about educating children in Little Compton.

We have the relationships, personal attention, and sense of belonging that come from a small school community while providing students with rich and innovative educational experiences.

Our teachers know their students.

Our families are partners in their children’s education.

Our community provides extraordinary opportunities to extend learning beyond the walls of the classroom.

And our IB philosophy encourages our students not simply to acquire knowledge, but to become curious, thoughtful, reflective, compassionate young people who are prepared to participate meaningfully in an increasingly complex world.

Small community. Strong relationships. Big opportunities.

That is a story worth telling.

Throughout this year, we will look for more opportunities to share what is happening in our classrooms, celebrate the accomplishments of our students and staff, highlight our IB journey, showcase our community partnerships, and help others understand what makes a Little Compton education so special.

Going Deeper, Together

As we move forward, our focus will not be on simply doing more. It will be going deeper.

Deeper in teaching and learning.

Deeper in our implementation of IB.

Deeper in our professional learning and collaboration.

Deeper in our relationships with students and families.

And stronger in our ability to celebrate and share the Little Compton story.

In every decision we make, one question will continue to guide us:

What is best for our students?

I believe the strength of Little Compton Schools has always been rooted in its people—our students, faculty and staff, families, School Committee, and the broader Little Compton community.

Together, we have an opportunity not simply to maintain the excellence that already exists, but to build upon it.

I look forward to working with all of you as we continue the momentum, build on excellence, and take Little Compton Schools to the next level.

With appreciation,

Rosemarie K. Kraeger
